WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Duration: 3 hours Instructor: Alex Walsh Age Requirement: Must be 15+ Dress Code: Closed-toe shoes required. Comfortable, well-fitted clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. No loose jewelry. Longer hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or ball cap. What You'll Learn: - How three-way switch circuits actually work - and how to wire them correctly - How to wire and install recessed lighting fixtures safely - How GFCI protection works downstream and how to test it properly - How to apply National Electrical Code (NEC) concepts to real installations - How to use a multimeter to test continuity, voltage, polarity and shorts - How to troubleshoot wiring mistakes before energizing a circuit - How electricians verify safety before turning power back on Workshop Description This hands-on workshop goes beyond basic wiring and into how electricians think, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems. You’ll wire complete circuits, test them with a multimeter, identify potential problems, and observe how systems behave once energized—all under controlled, instructor-supervised conditions. This class introduces live testing concepts (demonstrated by the instructor) while students practice proper testing and verification techniques prior to energization. Level One Electrical Basics is required prior to registering for the Level Two workshop — this workshop includes live demonstrations and supervised hands-on practice using professional equipment. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to: - Wire and test a three-way lighting circuit with confidence - Install and connect recessed light fixtures correctly - Wire a GFCI receptacle and protect downstream outlets - Identify and correct common wiring errors before power is restored - Use a multimeter to verify safe conditions and diagnose problems - Understand how breakers, GFCIs, and lighting respond to faults - Apply code concepts related to grounding, box fill, conductor size, and breaker selection Hands-On Learning: Each participant will work at their own dedicated practice station, wiring and testing devices using real materials and professional methods. You’ll learn to: - Pull and prepare cable properly - Terminate switches, outlets, and lighting fixtures - Identify traveler wires and neutral paths - Test circuits thoroughly before energizing - Interpret device behavior and troubleshoot issues
