TEEN WORKSHOPS: PLUMBING BASICS

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

Duration: 4 hours Age Requirement: Must be 14-17 years of age. Dress Code: Closed-toe shoes required. Comfortable, well-fitted clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. No loose jewelry. Longer hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or ball cap. Workshop Description: Students will learn how to handle common plumbing repairs through hands-on instruction that builds confidence, problem-solving ability, and real-world skill. This workshop introduces the fundamentals of residential plumbing while allowing students to actively work with fixtures, tools, and materials used in everyday repairs. Students will learn how to: Replace a toilet wax ring and properly reseat a toilet for a secure, leak-free seal Identify and replace internal toilet components such as fill valves and flappers Repair dripping faucets by removing and replacing hot and cold stems Improve water flow by installing and selecting the correct faucet aerator Replace a mixing valve cartridge and understand how water temperature is controlled in showers and tubs Students will also observe live demonstrations that introduce more advanced techniques, including: How to safely shut off water and replace a toilet shut-off valve How modern Pro Press fittings are used to create secure, leak-free connections without soldering Throughout the workshop, students will work with real tools and fixtures under guided instruction, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond observation. Emphasis is placed on safety, proper technique, and understanding how plumbing systems function within a home. Plumbing repair is one of the most practical and valuable skills to learn. These are real issues that occur in everyday life, and the ability to fix them can save hundreds of dollars per repair. For those interested in the trades, plumbing also offers a strong career path with consistent demand and significant earning potential. By the end of the session, students leave with the ability to confidently approach common plumbing repairs, a clear understanding of when to handle a project independently, and a solid foundation for future skill development in the trades.

EQUIPMENT

Your safety is always our priority. We provide all necessary PPE based on the type of work being performed, including items such as N95 masks, gloves, eye and ear protection, and protective aprons. Our instructors will guide you on proper safety practices throughout the class.

Participants work with real tools and materials used in the trades, providing hands-on experience that reflects real-world conditions. All tools and materials required for the workshop are included for use during the workshop.

FIRST AID &
SAFETY PREPAREDNESS

While safety is emphasized in every workshop, we are fully prepared should an accident occur. Our facility is equipped with first aid kits, two emergency eye wash stations, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

SNACKS &
BEVERAGES

Hands-on work can build up an appetite, so we offer a small refreshment station with complimentary soda, water, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and individually packaged snacks.
