WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Duration: Approximately 5.5 hours Age Requirement: 13 and up Instructor: Richard Jenkins What Is Included: All tools, materials, and personal protective equipment. Dress Code: Closed toe shoes. Comfortable clothing you do not mind getting dirty. No loose jewelry. Longer hair pulled back. Our Tile & Grout Basics Workshop provides a solid foundation in the core principles of tile installation. Participants will learn the “why” and “how” behind professional tilework — from surface preparation and layout to cutting, thinset application, and grouting. This workshop demystifies the materials, tools, and techniques that make the difference between an amateur job and a professional finish. What's Covered • The differences between tile types (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, glass) • Identify the right grout and thinset for your needs • Proper mixing and application techniques for grout and thinset • How to cut tile using dustless tile saws • How to use essential tools like trowels and floats • Substrate options (cement board, backer board, existing surfaces) • The importance of surface prep and leveling for long-lasting installs Led by licensed, experienced contractors, this workshop offers a blend of demonstration and hands-on learning using real materials and professional-grade equipment. Hands on practice: You will work with real materials and professional grade tools, practicing trowel technique, cutting tile, and working grout into joints. Worth taking even if you never plan to tile. You will know what quality work looks like, what to ask a contractor, and what red flags to watch for. Reserve your spot today. ‼️ Breaks & Meals: Participants are welcome to take breaks as needed; however, workshop instruction will continue during unscheduled breaks. Full-day workshops include a 30-minute meal break. Complimentary beverages and individually packaged snacks are provided. Participants may bring a lunch, use the on-site refrigerator and microwave, or visit one of the mall restaurants. Those with food sensitivities or dietary restrictions are encouraged to plan accordingly. ‼️ Timing Notice: Our workshops are interactive. Occasionally, classes may run slightly past the scheduled end time to ensure students feel confident with the material. Please allow for some flexibility in your schedule.

You may receive account credit or transfer one time to another available date. 7 days or less before your workshop: Registration is final. No refunds, credits, or rescheduling. No-shows: No refund, credit, or rescheduling. If you cannot attend, you may request to have another eligible participant attend in your place. SAFETY PREPAREDNESS
While safety is emphasized in every workshop, we are fully prepared should an accident occur. Our facility is equipped with first aid kits, two emergency eye wash stations, and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Hands-on work can build up an appetite, so we offer a small refreshment station with complimentary soda, water, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and individually packaged snacks.
